Hearne Scientific Software appoints American distributors for CLIMEX and DYMEX.
Following the establishment of Hearne Scientific Software LLC in the United States the company has appointed two American distributors. These distributors will enhance Hearne's American reach for selling software programs developed by Australian, New Zealand and Irish research organisations.
The Entomology software programs CLIMEX and DYMEX, an example of successfull collarboration between the CSIRO and Hearne Scientific Software, will benifit from the appointment of these American distributors.

Hearne Scientific Software will continue to drive the world wide sales and marketing for CLIMEX and DYMEX. Hearne staff will be attending the Entomological Society of America's 2004 Annual Meeting and Exhibition November 14-17, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The CSIRO will be holding training courses for CLIMEX and DYMEX in January 2005.
Participants in the January 2003 DYMEX and CLIMEX training workshops rated their overall satisfaction at 2.9 and 2.8 respectively on a scale of one to three.
CSIRO will be repeating the workshops in 2005 with timing according to demand. Two dates are being considered and will be finalised after we have gauged the level of interest.
The first week will be on process-based, or mechanistic modelling of population dynamics, using the DYMEX modular modelling software, with worked examples of insects and plants.
The second week will be a different type of modelling, called 'inverse' or 'inferential' modelling using the CLIMEX climate-matching software. CLIMEX is used to infer the climatic responses of a species from its geographical distribution.

Tuition fees are $1500 per workshop (plus GST for Australian participants), which includes documentation, morning and afternoon teas and lunch each day. Participants need to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. We will provide a list of suitable venues for your consideration.
Interested parties are invited to contact Hearne Scientific Software to express their interest. Please indicate which of the two times would be most suitable. CSIRO will be able to cope with a maximum of ~20 trainees in each workshop so positions will be allocated on a first-come first-in basis.
